SHORT WATERFALL HIKES

On the Bennett Street Trail to Great Falls on 6/27, and Champney Falls Trail on 6/29.

Carol enjoys the hemlock forest on the lovely lower section of the WODC's Bennett Street Trail.

Into the woods for a geocache.

Great Falls and its pool in a scenic rocky setting.

Great Falls from above.

The nameless cascade with amber pool on Pond Brook a short way below Great Falls.

Side view.

Looking down. A wonderful spot to hang out on a humid day.

Rock step work by the Saco Ranger District and AMC trail crew on Champney Falls Trail.

Champney Falls, in decent flow after a day of much-needed rain.

Pitcher Falls in its flume.

Upper Champney Falls.

Older rock staircase on the loop trail that climbs steeply beside the falls.

A higher cascade.

View from a ledge above the top of the falls: Mt. Carrigain, Vose Spur, Owl Cliff, Mt. Tremont and Mt. Nancy.

Artifacts from the P. White Camp of the Swift River Railroad (1906-1916). (These artifacts are protected and it is illegal to remove them from the WMNF.)

Sled runner.

The Forest Service requests help from hikers in building needed cairns on the open ledges of Mt. Chocorua.
