HIGH WATER IN THE WHITES: 10/30/17

We haven't seen anything like this since Tropical Storm Irene. Thanks to all the first responders and road and power crews for their heroic efforts in the aftermath of the storm.

For a short time this ephemeral cascade on a slide on the flank of Mt. Lafayette was one of the loftiest waterfalls in the Whites.

A view down that part of the slide on a dry day.

No one would be making the crossing this day.

Eastman Brook near Rt. 175 in Woodstock.

Smarts Brook along the Pine Flats Trail. The water level had subsided somewhat by late afternoon.

  1. Hello Steve! Wow, what incredible pics! Thanks so much for getting out there and taking them. In my countless visits to the Basin I have never seen it look anything like that. All of you in NH have been in our thoughts.

    1. Thanks, Paul - it was wild! Luckily we had very little damage here in Lincoln. Other areas were hit much harder. Certainly one of the major storms in recent memory.
      Steve
