FALLING WATERS TRAIL: 2/11/11
I enjoyed a snowshoe jaunt up this old favorite to the waterfalls area on a clear, crisp morning.
Early sun in the hardwoods on the lower section between Walker Brook and Dry Brook.
Swiftwater Falls, buried in snow.
Cloudland Falls is smothered as well.
A nice track on the steep sidehill section ascending alongside Cloudland.
The beautiful view from the top of Cloudland Falls: the great SE shoulder of South Kinsman, Mt. Wolf and Mt. Moosilauke.
Sun along the brook above Cloudland.
The open brookbed at the second crossing above Cloudland.
The last crossing before the trail begins the long climb to Franconia Ridge -- this morning's turnaround point.
Heading back down the valley in the morning sun.
The track weaving down between two brook crossings.
With more sun, the view is brighter atop Cloudland Falls.
Cloudland from below.
A very short bushwhack to the top of Swiftwater Falls reveals a peek at North Kinsman.
South Kinsman, seen from the edge of the trail beside Swiftwater Falls.
Stairs Falls wearing its snowy mantel.
Sun and shadows on Dry Brook. This lower part of Falling Waters Trail is a great place to spend two or three hours on snowshoes.
