A favorite five-mile loop on a warm, sunny and very humid morning. Saw no other hikers on the entire hike.
Smooth walking on the grade of the early 1900s Woodstock & Thornton Gore Railroad on the Little East Pond Trail.
Little East Pond and Scar Ridge peaks. Shallow water!
This remarkably large and gnarled red maple stands on the SW shore of Little East Pond.
Lush ferns and inviting woods along the wonderful East Pond Loop, a backcountry ramble across two spur ridges between Little East Pond and East Pond.
The classic scene at East Pond, looking across to the Scar Ridge-Osceola col. The spiraling songs of several Swainson's Thrushes were borne on a light SW breeze. I heard 16 species of birds around the loop.
