That south side of Kancamagus is very interesting.

Would love to see reports of some of your adventures!

SteveSteve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-61777560447544135742013-01-11T20:30:57.877-05:002013-01-11T20:30:57.877-05:00Steve

I can't begin to imagine how John put together his list, but it does make it easier to find reports. I'm thinking of exploring south slopes of Mt Kancamangus and had to sift through your month by month list. It is tedious and I get distracted by all the cool stuff that I forget what I started out looking for when I started looking.

BTW I love those snow scenes of Little River Valley

Best Regards ... The North Hale sub-peak you're aiming for does have a nice open clifftop with views of the Presys and more. There's a whole series of cliffs/ledges extending NE down the ridge from North Hale. I once whacked from Middle Sugarloaf to South Sugarloaf and then up that ridge to North Hale. Thick and rough in places but lots of views.

I'll send you the track for the west ridge ledge. I don't have a master list of blog entries like John has, it just lists them month by month.

SteveSteve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-79403109599710944832013-01-11T07:06:42.820-05:002013-01-11T07:06:42.820-05:00Steve

We tried to visit that peak last summer, but we got caught in cloud burst and even though GPS indicated it was only 0.25 mile we would have gotten totally soaked getting to it. You can see the ledgey sub-peak as you pass over shoulder near the summit area. If that isn't it, I'll take your GPS track also. N. Hale is still on my to-do list. My email is rdcaron@rcn.com. Your blog is a treasure trove of info for us mountain wanderers. Do you have list of blogs like John Compton has?Jazzbeauxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00558496157846812245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-42185610798536087582013-01-07T11:02:31.481-05:002013-01-07T11:02:31.481-05:00Thanks, Joe. Hale has a number of excellent viewpoints; it just so happens that the summit ain't one of them.

SteveSteve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-37185698289182619432013-01-07T11:01:09.398-05:002013-01-07T11:01:09.398-05:00Hi Rick,

The track for the Firewarden's is about 1/10th mile past (south of) the side stream you cross shortly after leaving the North Twin Trail. Firewarden's angles sharp left back from the direction you're traveling if you're going in from Haystack Rd. There were a couple of adjacent skier/snowshoer tracks leading a few yards up to the Firewarden's.

SteveSteve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-68035042830575318672013-01-06T13:52:14.058-05:002013-01-06T13:52:14.058-05:00Hey Steve,

Now I saw two snowshoe tracks diverge from the herd path between the river crossings, which one of those is the correct one for accessing the Firewardens Trail?

BillBill Robichaudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08085575515482945267noreply@blogger.com
