It leaves East Pond Trail near a boulder where the trail levels out above the crossing of Pine Brook. Certainly a lot easier than the whack up along the brook! Would be interested in seeing the video of the run down the slide.

SteveSteve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-87545994640641261732014-03-17T16:11:15.674-04:002014-03-17T16:11:15.674-04:00Hey guys, I skied the western slides a couple year...Hey guys, I skied the western slides a couple years back and it was amazing. But the whack in was terrible. I crossed the river and started ascedning then followed what I guess is the western most tributary up. I thought I was headed for Dogleg Slide. I found great skiing to my surprise and want to find it again. Is the trail to the western slides flagged at all? or do I just have to get lucky again? I am looking to repeat my last great adventure but need some assistance. If anyone is interested, I have a GoPro Vid of some excellent turns on the skiers left Western Slide.
Cheers,
MHAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-76898496098421663002013-09-14T23:00:28.683-04:002013-09-14T23:00:28.683-04:00Thanks for the link, BC. You and your sons will certainly remember this one!

SteveSteve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-60980118283568976352013-09-14T08:47:44.367-04:002013-09-14T08:47:44.367-04:00I'm not sure if you check comments on old post...I'm not sure if you check comments on old posts like this one, Steve. Ever since I read your February trip report to the Dogleg Slide, I've been itching to climb it. My sons and I were going to do it on Memorial Day, but were denied by the freak snowstorm. However, we went back a few weeks ago on a perfect day and did the climb (trip report: http://forum.hike-nh.com/viewtopic.php?t=6634). It was steep, challenging, and intense, but a great hike. Thanks for providing the inspiration to do it!BCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-56989500159105547152013-02-11T21:37:31.851-05:002013-02-11T21:37:31.851-05:00Thanks, Steve. I think the remoteness of the lower slide area would be appealing even if a climb to the summit proves to be too difficult.BCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-46660264138326995522013-02-11T09:03:57.816-05:002013-02-11T09:03:57.816-05:00Thanks, BC! It sounds and looks like there are some tricky wet slab areas in the middle section that must be bushwhacked around through dense, rough scrub. I assume that's where the ice bulges are in winter. The big wide upper part looks drier and more doable.

Steve Steve Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16403760631302934834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3814464431995035927.post-7308569913998663432013-02-10T22:21:15.839-05:002013-02-10T22:21:15.839-05:00Great report, Steve. I would like to explore this area, but I don't have the equipment or the skills to tackle such a challenge in winter. Do you know if climbing to the Osceola summit via the Dog Leg slide is a good summer hike?BCnoreply@blogger.com
